Tools of the Trade

Jack's Gadgets - a fresh display of the weird, wonderful and downright dangerous gadgets collected by local character Jack Mitchell, a regular buyer at Swaffham's famous Saturday Auction. There is an interesting display representing a small part of our agricultural tools collection that were once in everyday use before mechanisation and modern working practices superceded many labour intensive rural crafts.

Max and Winifred Mueller

A tale of war, love and art in Swaffham.  Max Mueller was a German prisoner of war at nearby Cockley Cley who settled in Swaffham after World War Two and married a local girl. This is a display of Max’s superbly crafted engineering models and both his and Winifred’s paintings.

Sporting Heroes

This display features national and local sportsmen and women who were once household names.  Besides the well known national names are our local heroes – Evelyn Hamilton a 1930’s cycling champion and Jem Mace the “Father of Modern Boxing”.  They both have fascinating stories to tell.

This gallery is our temporary exhibitions room and displays will be regularly changed.
