Exhibitions
At present the museum is closed for a major refurbishment. The works that will be undertaken include major repairs to the Town Hall thus bringing it back to its former glory.
Along with the refurbishment two new exhibition rooms will be created, one being dedicated to the famous Egyptologist Howard Carter and the find of King Tutankhamun’s tomb in the Valley of the Kings Egypt.
It is planned to have displays on the social history of the town including commerce, recreation, archaeology, religion, plus other subjects.
The Sporle & Palgrave collection will be displayed in a better format. This collection consists of coins from the Norfolk Horde (1180 1280), one of the smallest medieval broaches ever found, fossils and flint tools from the prehistoric settlement in the village plus many more items of interest.
The museum is also hoping to organise various outside events based on various Historical periods.
All these changes are hoped to be in place ready for a July/August 2006 opening.
