This project aims to tell the story of the town and its people between 1914 and 1919.
It collects information from a variety of sources and will be updated as new material becomes available.
A tribute to the Far East Prisoners of War
On 15 August 2020 it was 75 years since Japan surrendered to the Allies, and the Prisoners of War, who had been incarcerated and brutalised since the Fall of Singapore on 15 February 1942, could begin to look forward to coming home.
The men who were so treated were part of the "forgotten army”.
On our stairway is a stained glass window featuring the Pedlar of Swaffham. You may have also seen him on the Swaffham town sign.
The tale of John Chapman, the Pedlar of Swaffham is a well-loved story based on historical fact. Is it all true? This version of the story was created for the 800th celebration of Swaffham's market.
You can read to your children or grandchildren.
Swaffham History Group meets monthly at Swaffham Heritage. It was formed in 2008 as a non-profit making group to undertake original research into aspects of Swaffham's history and also to work with other organisations and individuals with similar aspirations.
"Brilliant little museum with friendly knowledgeable staff. Exhibition on Howard Carter who discovered Tutankhamen's tomb was particularly interesting and enjoyable." Read more reviews
