The Carter Centeneray Gallery

Visit the Carter room with its updated story of Howard Carter’s discovery of the Tutankhamun tomb in 1922.

This updated and exciting gallery provides lots of information about Carter and the Ancient Egyptians. Howard Carter's extended family lived in Swaffham and he spent much of his childhood growing up in our town. This gallery tells the story of his link with Swaffham and how his life here lead him to finding the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922.

Hear Howard Carter reading from his diary and see Egyptian artefacts from the time of Tutankhamun on loan to us from the British Museum.

Always popular with our visitors, young and old alike, this display also provides engaging activities for children.
